CHIP provides health coverage for uninsured children up to age 19 years old. To be eligible for CHIP, a child cannot be eligible for Medicaid. The family income. CHIP is free for most families with no copays or monthly premiums.

For low-cost and full-cost members, some benefits require a copayment or “copay” that you pay directly to the provider each time your children get services. If you are a low-cost or full-cost CHIP enrollee, we will notify you about your premium when we process your application.

If your child is in the low-cost premium category, the maximum you will pay for copays annually is five percent of your family income.

There are no PCP copays for preventive care services, including well-child visits and visits for immunizations, for members in any premium category.

Dear Provider,

To assist families in accessing care during the COVID-19 response, HHSC is waiving office visit copayments for all CHIP members for services provided from March 13, 2020 through May 31, 2020. Please note that the end date is subject to change. Providers must NOT collect office visit copayments for CHIP members during this time. The member’s MCO will reimburse the provider the full rate for the service, including what would have been paid by the member through cost-sharing.

All providers must attest the office visit copayment was not collected from the date this notification was received by using the attestation form. Providers must return the signed Attestation Form to CFHP via email to nmcfhp@cfhp.com or via fax (210) 358-6199.

Community First Health Plans implemented the copayment wavier on April 2, 2020. Community First Health Plans (CFHP) will re-process those which may have been processed with a copayment. CFHP suggests provider(s) refund the member(s) or allow a credit for future office visit. Documentation for processing will be required.
