Whether you’re visiting Fossil Rim while driving your own vehicle through our 7.2-mile Gosdin Scenic Drive or enjoying a guided tour in one of our vans, please take the following points into consideration when planning your visit:
- Rain or shine, Fossil Rim is the place to be. Come and explore nature at its finest during any season of the year.
- The animals don’t care what the weather is doing, so they’re always out and about. In fact, the rhinos love to slosh around in the mud when it is raining. Keep in mind, we will put the giraffes and rhinos in their yards if the forecast for the night is going to be lower than 50 degrees Fahrenheit or if there will be any inclement weather (heavy rain, hail, etc.). We may also put the giraffes and rhinos in their yards for health or management reasons. Typically, we begin the process of rounding up the giraffes and rhinos, and herding them into their yards from 4-4:30 p.m. Any animal that needs protection from cold or severe weather will also be handled this way.
- Any notice of closure due to inclement weather will be on our main website page. Please check there before leaving home.
- Animal food is free at the Front Gate with the purchase of admission in your own vehicle. It will also be provided on a guided tour at no extra charge. We have a limit of one bag per vehicle for animal health reasons.
- We are located 55 miles southwest of Fort Worth via US-67 and Chisholm Trail Parkway, and also 75 miles from Dallas via US 67. Approximately three miles west of Glen Rose, turn left onto County Road 2008. You can find map directions here.
- ABSOLUTELY NO PETS ALLOWED! We realize that many people travel with their pets, but due to government regulations, pets cannot be allowed on Fossil Rim property or left in parked vehicles in our parking lot. Please take this into consideration while making plans to visit us. There are veterinarians in the Glen Rose area who offer boarding services, and please call us at 254.897.2960 for more information.
- Guided tours, lodging, and driving through the park in your own vehicle must each be reserved in advance.
